Wanting what you already have

We humans are so difficult to satisfy.

We always want what we don’t yet have.

We are always looking over our shoulder, 

or over the fence, 

or these days flicking through endless pictures on Insta or Facebook

To see what everybody else is up to

To see what everybody else has

To check up on what we are missing out on

To discover what we are lacking.

Why is it that what we already have never seems to be enough?

Why is the grass always greener on the other side?

It’s not really, of course.

It just looks that way a lot of the time.

Sometimes it looks this way because we fail to see what is great about our own patch of grass.

We lose our gratitude in the familiarity of what we already have.

Our senses get a little dulled.

But look around you and think about all the things that you want,

That you DO ALREADY HAVE.

Appreciate the abundance of your life as it is. 

Your grass is probably a lot greener than you think.

Sometimes however, our little patch of grass doesn’t look quite as green

Because are not working on it enough.

We are so busy looking at everybody else’s grass

That we ignore our own.

To keep your grass looking green takes a level of commitment and focus.

It takes love and care, hard work and tenacity

It means sticking to one thing long enough to see results.

It means not jumping from one shiny object or idea to another.

It means not worrying about what everybody else has, 

Spend that energy tending to what you have in front of you now instead. 

The grass isn’t greener on the other side.

The grass is greener where you water it.
