6 Reasons why plant-based eating is the best diet on the planet!

plant-based eating – it’s just another fad.

Why go to all the hassle to make such a big change when this diet is no likely to be different to any other.

I hear you.

Let me show you why plant based eating is SOOOOO different.


There are seemingly hundreds of diet fads out there and they come and go in the blink of an eye: Atkins, South Beach, Paleo, Zone, Cabbage Soup, Lemon Detox The baby food diet, the Alkaline diet… you get the drift.

What is in one minute is out the next. One day it is all about low fat, the next fat is in, carbs are out, the next thing you know everything you eat needs to be mushed up like baby food. What the….

It is hard to know which way to turn.

But plant based eating ends all that confusion, and here’s why.

Plant based eating is NOT a fad…. It is a lifestyle – a way of eating that is not for the short term or a quick gain but rather to promote long-term health and vitality.

Sure it will help you lose weight and get that awesome healthy glow!

But more importantly it has been scientifically proven to be the only way of eating that can prevent and even reverse some of our biggest chronic disease killers like heart disease and diabetes.

That doesn’t sound like a fad. That just sounds like the kind of food we should ALL be eating.

Let me tell you why.

1) Health and Vitality

You are what you eat – so nourishing your body with nutritious foods is essential if you want to achieve vibrancy and health.

We only get one body in our lifetime, so seems like a good idea to take care of it really well. Eating plant foods full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and fibre will leave you feeling light and brimming with energy and health.

But not only will you feel tip top on a daily basis, eating plant based has been scientifically proven to prevent and even reverse chronic lifestyle diseases like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer.

Even better, studies show that plant based eaters live longer than omnivores. So eating a plant based diet can help you to live longer while feeling younger. More years to your life, and life to your years!

2) Weight Loss

People who follow a plant based diet are lighter and trimmer than their ominvore counterparts.   Their BMI (body mass index) is lower than meat eaters and even that of vegetarians and pescatarians (fish eaters).

This is due to the relative low energy density of plant based foods compared to animal foods. i.e. pound for pound plant foods are far lower in calories

3) Physical Performance

Fancy yourself an athlete or just want to maximize your workout? Plant based eating could be just the secret weapon that you are looking for. Chock full of antioxidants, plant based foods are fantastic in reducing fatigue and aiding in quicker recovery. Many of today’s top athletes have found out this secret. If it works for the likes of Serena Williams, ultramarathoner Scott Jurek and world strongman Patrick Baboumian I think it could work for you too.

4) Environment

Now we can’t avoid having some impact on the environment but we can try to ensure we tread as lightly as possible.

Did you know that animal based agriculture creates more green house gas emissions than all forms of transportation combined? That it takes up to a third of the world’s fresh water consumption. Or that livestock covers 45% of the earth’s total landmass?…. Those are crazy kinds of figures.

Eating a plant based diet is the hands down the biggest individual contribution each of us can make towards mitigating climate change, preserving land and water resources and maintaining a healthy environment.

5) For the animals

Of course eating plant based is the kindest choice that you can make for all the animals out there and ends a lot of unnecessary cruelty and suffering. Over 56 billion animals a year die to feed us humans (and that doesn’t include fish)… Need I say more?

6) Positivity and Compassion

Eating a plant based diet can make us better people. What surprises many people is how eating plant based transforms not their health but their whole outlook on life. Making the conscious choice to eat in the way that is the most compassionate to those around us, of course to animals and to our environment helps people to look beyond their own selves and see the world for what it truly is.

 

So there you have it. Plant based eating is so much more than a diet, or a fad. It is a lifestyle that will not only greatly improve your health and enhance the way you look and feel but is kind on our environment and compassionate too boot.
